100 YA Books Chain

I'm building a chain from Chantelle's blog: Beyond Words. Like all great chains, this one is completely voluntary--you won't get cursed or anything if you don't play.

If you DO play along, leave a link in the comments so we can check out which books you've read. Also in the comments, tell me if which books you don't think should be on this list, which books you'd replace them with, and especially which ones I should add to my TBR list.

  1. Ooh, I do think I'll pass this chain on! I'd highly recommend the Fablehaven series, I think they're just as good as Harry Potter. Also the rest of the Lightning Thief books, and I enjoyed the first Inkheart. Oh, and Coraline and Stardust are must reads!

  2. I'll have to disagree with Kristin about Harry. Sorry. I still haven't finished the last Fablehaven book, and I read Deathly Hallows in one sitting. =D

I'm continuing it, too, Robin. On Wednesday's post. I'm definitely adding some books to the list.

  3. Okay, maybe not AS good as Harry Potter. Nothing can come quite as close. LOL But it's the first series since Harry Potter I got totally fangirly over!

    I just posted mine: http://kristinbaker.blogspot.com/2011/09/100-ya-books-chain-what-have-you-read.html

  4. I love the Fablehavens but I think they are MG not YA.

And doesn't The Uglies have 4 books?

  5. Well, I am biased when it comes to Harry, Kristin. I freely admit it.

  6. Okay - and my love of contemporary is about to show up.
    Read. John. Green.

That said - I just finished The Truth About Forever by Sarah Dessen and loved it.
Dessen is who I want my daughter to read when she's that old.
Also - Perfect Chemistry - the first one is a must read :D

    Good luck on your list!!

  8. Great list. And it was only when you pointed it out that I realised, yes, The Host isn't YA!!

  9. Awesome list! I don't read much YA so I don't have any to contribute myself, but I am a Harry Potter and Twilight fan! :-)

  10. The Lovely Bones isn't YA either. I wonder how many others aren't really in the "young adult" category. I couldn't say for sure since I don't recognize 1/3 - 1/4 of the titles.

  11. Okay, I SWEAR I commented on this post already. Weird. Anyway, you should read UNWIND and STARDUST (although I'm not sure the latter's YA, but whatever), but you absolutely MUST read THE BOOK THIEF. It's one of my favorite books of all time. READ IT.

  13. Kristin--Donna really is biased towards HP. She moderates an HP forum. :)

    Donna--not that HP isn't completely worship-worthy. :D

Shelly--Uglies sort of has 4. Extras is a stand-alone in the same world. I'm adding it to the list, though, just so I can underline it.

Jolene--John Green. Check. Also, Dessen is already on my TBR list. That girl is everywhere!

    Angie--can't wait!

Chanelle--do YOU know who compiled the list? 'Cause they have some 'splainin to do.

Crystal--resistance is futile. You will be assimilated.

Ru--I recognized more on this list than on most lists I see. I mean, seriously--with all the books I read, I should have read more of the books EVERYBODY is reading, right? Sheesh.

Susan--I deleted your first comment for inappropriate content. (Not really.) Book Thief. Check. :D (I wondered about Stardust--the movie didn't seem very YA....)

  14. Ooooh!! I'm totally doing this on Monday. I loved the Fablehaven series. And Percy Jackson. Those are so fun! :) (Huge Harry Potter fan here as well. LOVE!!)

  15. Now that I look at it, Percy Jackson, Lemony Snicket, Septimus Heap, Artemis Fowl, Harry Potter, Diary of a Wimpy Kid, and the Shannon Hale books are all Middle Grade books.
And someone misspelled Stephenie Meyer's name.

Not that I care but just sayin'

    LOL! I'm insufferable!

  16. Oh, I'm biased toward Harry Potter too! We dress up for the movies, quote the books and A Very Potter Musical, throw spells at each other, get into long debates over plot points. LOL Great fun!

Shelly - Great points! I've always said YA was my favorite genre, and I didn't know the definition of MG until a few years ago. It turns out many of my favorite books are upper-MG. I think Inkheart also falls into that category. My WIP, a steampunk dark fantasy, might be more MG than YA, but I won't know for sure until I'm further into it.

  17. Chantelle--I look forward to your list

Shelly --how are you defining MG? Hale's Byern books seem firmly YA, though some of the others could be MG

Kristin--those lines are so fuzzy, aren't they? Good thing adults like it all! ;)
