NaNo Home Stretch

As of yesterday, I have 42,264 words. In 15 minutes, I'm going to start a few marathon #WordWar rounds on twitter (come play!) and try to get at least 4000 words today.

This is my first NaNo and I fully expect to win. I'm not like many of my buddies who finished weeks ago, but I've written almost every day, and used the weekends to catch up (and occasionally get a tad ahead). I'll show you my whole chart next week when it's over, but I'm happy to say I've stayed close to the goal line all month.

In other news, my NaNo project is taking me in fun directions. I didn't have time to plot the thing before November 1 (I just found out on Nov1 that I had time for NaNo), so I'm discovery writing with a 4-point benchmark outline. I was shooting for an 80k word book, but I'm thinking it might run long. Good thing there's a lot to cut, right?

Okay, I've got to figure out what happens next in the next 5 minutes before WordWarIII starts. (Have I mentioned how much I love Twitter? You people are SOOO motivational!)

How's your NaNo going?

  1. I've been sprint writing in a couple of different places. I haven't checked out Twitter.

Congrats on making it so far, since you didn't think you'd be able to participate at all. That's awesome!

  2. Yay you! It's hard to keep up. But this NaNo has been a great month.

  3. Yes, the word war was fun! It was very instructive to be forced to banish my inner critic and focus solely on pushing the story forward. I'd like to do more of those! Do you think they'll continue once November is over?

  4. Donna: I love sprinting with my Tweeps. Thanks for joining me today!

Jessie: No doubt. Who knew we could write so fast and so consistently?

Heidi: when your critic is banished, you're blazin! 4000 words in an hour?! That's, like, dang, girl.

  5. Thanks. Mt critic has been flaggelating me for my dreadful writing since yesterday, but I just say, "4096 words in yo FACE, suckah!" With him gone, I had some intriguing thoughts about story and character development.

  6. Sorry I have been able to make the tweet streaks, but my writing times have been erratic in the evenings. Nonetheless, this NaNo has been an awesome experience. I'm so glad I chose to participate (this was my first). I'm going to write all my novels this way from now on. I figure when I'm in writing mode, I can punch out a novel in 2-3 months so long as it's not the 250,000 behemoth I have planned for sometime next year.

Congrats on all your wordage, Robin. Maybe we can all pass around our NaNos in the novel swap in the coming months.
