Warning?

Is anyone else getting a warning when they try to visit my blog? It seems to be functioning fine from my end, but someone got a warning that there might be malware. I haven't added anything in the last day or so. Thoughts? Advice?

  1. I wish I was techy and could help. I don't get a warning when I stop by.

  2. No warning when I came here. There are several factors that could be causing the issue. One is that the affected persons anti-virus software gave the message. Another is that some site put blogspot on a warning list for possible maleware and settings in the anti-virus or web browser could trigger that message from showing. Of course there could be other possibilities but those are the ones I thought about.

Of course none of those things are things you can change.

One idea is you could ask if the person who got the warning gets the same warning for every blogspot blog. If so, they might be able to get rid of the warning by adding blogspot.com or even robinweeks.blogspot.com to their safe internet site list in their internet options (if they have windows that is).

  3. Thanks, everyone--I'm going to hope that it was a more individual problem with that visitor.

Eric--she actually send me a copy of the warning, which referenced a specific site "known for malware." I've never heard of that site before, but don't want to mention it in case the name triggers more warnings. :)

  4. Nothing like that here. But I used to have a problem posting replies to blogspot blogs because it requires you to accept third party cookies. Why would they do that? you ask.

    Great question. ;)

  6. Robin,

From what you said it sounds like the problem is not a problem with your website before. I have found if going to a website triggers a popup or another window displaying that type of message it is a good sign that your computer has been affected.

The problem is that her computer has been infected by some malicious software that is redirecting her internet traffic through sites that pop up those messages on commonly hit sites.

I know this because this happened to me about nine months ago and I had to work with my anti-virus software to work through the steps I needed to take to remove this software (known as root kits) from my computer. I am glad that I had them because they needed to create some specific software for me to clean up my issue because I would not have known how to do it myself.

    I hope this helps.
